To make cented jar candles like Yankee…Do you need additives?

Posted on April 4th, 2010 by admin in jar candles | 1 Comment »

I want to make candles like Yankee, How much sent (oz) per pound of wax do I need, also do I need additives in them?
I plan to put them in masson jars 8 oz.
Also what wick do I use……

Best answer 10 PTS.

You will need additives if making candles out of regular wax. It is easier to buy wax for container candles.

I need to find bulk black pillar candles…?

Posted on April 4th, 2010 by admin in pillar candles | 1 Comment »

I’m planning a wedding for the day before halloween, 2010, and it’s a dark, gothic, traditional reception. I need about 45-50 candles in 3-4 sizes for the centerpieces…I’d love to know where to order those or if making them is easier…thanks! :)

Try http://www.darkcandles.com/ They have dark and black candles in great scents. If you need something they don’t have, like a different sized pillar candle, I’m sure Helena (the owner) would be happy to help you out however she can.

Why do SCENTED candles burn faster than unscented?

Posted on April 4th, 2010 by admin in unscented candles | 2 Comments »

I need to know for science. haha

It’s because when you add something to wax, like scent and coloring agents, it makes the wax less dense -it thins it out. So it burns faster.

Need help decorating Votive candles?

Posted on April 4th, 2010 by admin in votive candles | 3 Comments »

ok, so i am trying to think if some ideas to decorate Votive candles for my wedding. These candles will go into "goodie" bags for our guests. I dont want them to look "tacky", but i do want to do something simple, and cheap (but i dont want them to look cheap). Does anyone have any ideas?
ok, so heres the thing, the votive candles that i have are NOT "cheap made" nor are they "cheap looking", so with that being said, i also watch for sales, but want to do something different. I dont want to do something EVERYONE has done. I didnt want to use pillar candles etc. (sorry for the ones who have left, or are going to leave nice comments) but there are some people who are just rude.

you could get some glue and put it around the outside, then roll it in some small beads of your wedding colors and maybe some glitter to give them some sparkle. Could get a small assembly line going and it might go fairly quickly too!

Does anyone here sell soy candles for other companies? How much can you make doing this?

Is this a good business opportunity? Thanks!

I know a lot of people who make them – but not too many that sell them – they end up giving them away as gifts – I’ve gotten a few – - here are the problems….
They dont burn well….soy just isn’t the best medium for candles, try mixing it with other waxes, palm, candeliea, etc.
And you have to be real careful about the wick/container size ratio – other wise they burn too hot, which gives them a short burn time, sooty, scent flash burns etc.
Be real careful with those and you might be ok.
Do a lot of research first.

Where can I buy floating candles?

For a decent price? The dollar tree dont have them anymore, neither does Family Dollar or Dollar General.
No they dont, I called every nearby store with the name "Dollar" in the title and none have them.

The Dollar Store has them .

What about Pier 1 Imports?
Winners?
Home Sense?

Why do scented candles make me feel drained and weak?

Posted on April 4th, 2010 by admin in scented candles | 2 Comments »

I only burn the wax melts or tarts in a burner for 2hrs a day, i noticed i was tired all the time from the oils, Yankee candles seem to be the worst, any candle experts out there that can tell me what scented candles are the best for burning that won’t drain the essence out of me.

You might be like me and have a chemical sensitivty. Clue: most big manufacturers don’t use herbal stuff. The art of candle making and burning goes back thousands of years. Try a more natural candle and you might find it to actually be invigorating. You can get these said candles from health food stores and new-age book shops. Ask the owner if they have such things. Also, many flea markets (indoor) often have homemade candle sellers. Stay away from the chains………

Are BeesWax candles really worth and as good as people say they are.?

Posted on April 4th, 2010 by admin in beeswax candles | 1 Comment »

I am thinking of making some candles. I am researching online about the different types of candles that can be made. Soy, BW, Parafin etc..dust want a couple opinions before I waste a bunch of wax..

Go for the 100% pure beeswax. Not only do they smell great when burning, they also burn quite free of soot.

But the burning of the beeswax also releases vapors which I believe include ether’s. These vapors seem to have a very medicinal effect on human tissue. Witness the ear candles that are all the rage at the moment. They really do work, as amazing as that seems.

I also suspect that when the Catholic church abandoned their traditional use of pure beeswax candles in their cathedrals, much of the impact of their act was lost.

Just imagine going to church with a headache, some sinus pain or hay fever, then after sitting in that beeswax infused environment, to emerge feeling free of pain, relaxed, invigorated by each breath. Wouldn’t that make you want to go back to church next Sunday? Instead go there now, with all the same problems, and come out with soot in your nose and more tar in your lungs………

Beeswax is great to touch, too. Just the handling of it in the candle making process is a pleasure. Then every time you caress that candle, you will enjoy it again.

If you make you candle thick enough, the wax will pool up instead of dripping all over your tablecloth, and you will get a lot of burning out of it. This is affected by the ambient temperature when you burn the candle, of course.
