Why can’t you refill jar candles?

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

All the warnings on the jar candles say not to. I want to refill mine w/ wax and use w/ a candle warmer. I can’t think of any reason why its dangerous, but maybe its something I’m overlooking.

The warning is probably for safety purposes. When you use a jar candle, the glass heats up from the flame, and then cools when the candle is extinguished, stressing the glass somewhat each time. It is conceivable (though not very likely, I think) that reusing the jar could increase the likelihood of the jar breaking from the additional heating/cooling stress caused by multiple uses.

However, a candle warmer shouldn’t introduce that same level of stress, and it will probably work just fine.

How do I get my gel candles sold?

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

I make gel candles but I want to sell them. What is the best way to get them sold. Should I find craft shows, or should I try and sell them to stores? ( I am under 18)

I’d take them to local gift shops. That’s how I sold the placemats, coasters, and paperback book covers I designed and made. I told then how much I wanted for them and Some of the gift shops paid for them when I delivered them, and some paid me when they sold.

I am looking for a twisted black wire centerpiece that holds 15 votive candles?

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

I saw this at a wedding. The votive cups were different shades of pink/red and held tealights. Thecenterpiece itself reminded me of those gold wire trees that were popular several years ago.

If your crafty, you can make it yourself. Everything you need would be at a craft store. Otherwise, type in your search engine, blackwire votive centerpiece. I came up with 10 pages to browse through, besides you may find something different you like better. that’s the fun of the search

How to make home made scented candles?

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

I absolutely love candles and wanted to know how to make vanilla scented candles. The candles I buy just don’t have enough aroma.I wanted to try it myself and see if I could get the aroma a little stronger.

We’ve made candles in white sand molds. Very nice.

Anyway, you can melt your candle and stir a little more vanilla in it. Pour it in a mold, or maybe just a jar or glass. Don’t forget the wick.

Beeswax Candle Making – What Kind of Wick Do You Use For Making Beeswax Candles?

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

Which candles are the easiest to make for beginners?

You use a "square braid cotton wick" for making beeswax candles. It’s the same wick that’s used in tapers, pillars and citronella candles as well. It’s a kind of wick that’s popular in rolled and poured candles as the braid gives the wick more strength. It’s also designed so that there’s a slight bend at its tip when burning.

If you’re just starting out with candle making then a simple votive candle is definitely the easiest to make. Hope this answers your question. All the best!
