Yankee Candles: Is there anything I can do to reduce or eliminate the black soot that it leaves in the jar?

Monday, March 29th, 2010

I LOVE Yankee Candles b/c the scents are so good and strong plus the throw is great. However, I hate the black soot it collects around the inside of the jars after being burned. Any suggestions?

the soot comes from the wick and parrafin in the candle. If they offer soy candles that is one of the best ways to cut down on soot. Also, be sure your trimming the wick down 1/4" each time you light it!

how long do gel tea light candles burn for? & What wax burns the longest for candles?

Monday, March 29th, 2010

I want to use them at my wedding reception on all the guest tables but need to know if i will have to replace them halfway through the night or if they will last the entire reception. I know gel burns longer than other waxes but i just don’t know how long.

Tea light candles typically burn from 2-4 hours. Candles made from vegetable waxes usually burn longer than candles made from paraffin wax. To make sure that your candles last through the entire reception I would use votive candles instead of tea lights.

Who should light the unity taper candles?

Monday, March 29th, 2010

My mother will not be attending my wedding. I know it’s both the mothers that usually light the tapers for the unity candle. I was thinking of having my sister lighting it in place of my mother. My fiance’s mother will be lighting one too of course. My sister is not in my bridal party so I thought this might be a good way of involving her too. In case she doesn’t make it…which is possible….who else could light it? Only my father and sister will be there from my family. My MOH and bridesmaid are both on my fiance’s side. Would it be awkward to have MOH light it in case of sisters absence as well? Thx for your suggestions.

Your sister is a GREAT IDEA!!! HOW SWEET!!

Blessings to you and your special day!

P.S. If your sister can’t do it, I would have your Father do it before the MOH!!

I need to find a store that will sell me 200 white 10 or 15cm pillar candles bulk cheap for my wedding. Prefer that the store is in Australia but if I get desperate enough ill get them from overseas. They have to have at least a couple of hours burning time in them and unsented is fine…..HELP MY WEDDING IS GETTING CLOSER AND I CANT FIND MY CANDLES!!!!!
Already tried eBay for the past 6 months!

We bought 300 candles from iKea. They are so cheap and have cute candle holders too for very little. Awesome.

how can one make unscented candles scented can i just spray some aroma on them like some perfume?

Monday, March 29th, 2010

…………………………

I am not sure that you could spray something on it I think it would burn and no sent smells good as a burned sent… : ( I think the above answer of adding scented oils is probably the best bet, but again I think they have to be warmed over a flame not actually burned on it. I am sorry I don’t have a better solution but I think it’s your best bet is to play it safe, just buy a few cented candles to add to your collection. You can find them at target and Wal-mart fairly cheep… and i don’t know where you live but the craft store Micheal’s is great too, they have beautiful holders and hangers. But add the new smelly ones to your old unsmelly ones for a extra pretty smelly glow!

Good luck and be safe.

(I think I made up that word: unsmelly…lol but you get the idea)

Where can I buy those red votive candle holders they have in Mexican restaurants?

Monday, March 29th, 2010

I’ve been searching online for the red votive candle holders (no religious looking candles) that a lot of mexican restaurants have on their tables. Any ideas?

I’m not sure I know exactly what the ones you want look like, they have red votive candle holders at www.cudge.net.

just let your imagination go!!!

And most flowers can be used this way, althought the ones that work the best are the ones that have a waxy coating, i.e. callas, orchids, tulips and roses.

A good florist can help you make it happen once you find the idea you like.

Also individual blooms secured with wire is very cool looking and uses less product in a unexpected way.

Will scented candles trigger a dorm room smoke alarm/sprinkler?

Monday, March 29th, 2010

I stay in a single dorm room in college, and each room has a smoke alarm and a sprinkler. I would like to light a scented candle (in a glass jar) to spice up the room abit, will it trigger the smoke alarm/sprinkler? It would suck if it does and the ensuing sprinklers soak my electronics.
The two ideal places I could place the candle happen to be below the smoke alarm and sprinkler. I can endeavor to move it elsewhere though if that is too dangerous.
Please advise, thank you!

A candle will not trigger the system. Just make certain that the candle isn’t too large and blow it out whenever you aren’t in your dorm room.

My daughter has a smelly candle in her dorm room and so far, so good!

Beeswax candles are typically more expensive than parrafin candles. Do you think they’re worth the $?

My husband has made me a beeswax convert. I bit the bullet this year and bought a few beeswax ones, and they last so much longer and look so much nicer as they burn down.
