Most communities have local networking events that give you the chance to promote your business on a weekly or monthly basis. Your local Chamber of Commerce is one and a great resource to lead you to other groups.

Business Network International (www.bni.com) is a great organization with locations almost everywhere. E Women Network is another (www.ewomennetwork.com) Another is www.meetup.com  Use www.google.com to help you locate other networking business groups in your area.

These groups are designed for the purpose of bringing business people together and providing the opportunity to showcase your business and your products.

Join a few groups and get involved. Carry a basket with your products in it. Carry literature and use the 3rd party approach. Who do you know who…

In the beginning, I recommend approaching these types of groups from the product perspective. Introduce your products and focus on developing business relationships and mutual ways of referring your products and your business. Don’t be afraid to let them know you are looking for others who would like to join you in working from home.

Be sure to take the third party approach in these situations. Too many overzealous networkers have blasted into these types of groups, hyping and pitching the opportunity side of their business and turning people off. Remember, many of these people are already traditional business owners and may not be looking. If you present things professionally and in a respectful manner, looking for referrals, those who are interested will either let you know or check out your website.

That is all you want.

In the meantime, enjoy the interest from others and make some solid product sales and develop some lasting customers. A few great monthly or bi-monthly customers can generate nice retail sales and fund an advertising budget for further expanding your business.

Referrals are a big part of this aspect of working your business. Expect referrals from the contacts you make there.

Also, create a win-win by paying attention to the businesses that others have and make referrals to them whenever possible.
