And for that matter, cloth or paper although I’m guessing cloth…
most ear candles are made with a mixture of paraffin and beeswax.
BEESWAX
A 100% natural wax alternative. Beeswax is the oldest and purest wax in the world.
The Majority of Ear Candles labeled as "beeswax" are most likely a blend of beeswax and paraffin. Yes we do too. Beeswax is very thick to handle on it’s own so we blend with paraffin or soy wax.
SOY WAX (Ecosoya™ )
Soy wax is a wax that is produced from the oil from the soybean. A 100% vegetable wax made with soybeans. Contain no pesticides or herbicides. Is non-petroleum and biodegradable. Is made ecologically, striving to use nothing but non-genetically modified soybeans. Burn clean, with little to NO carbon build up. Are environmentally friendly, promoting the growth and care of the environment by utilizing plants. Are made primarily from domestic grown crops supporting US farmers and economy.
Paraffin
Most Ear Candles are made with Paraffin and Cotton
Paraffin is a commonly used wax. A Petroleum by-product. It may produce the same release of carcinogen (when they are burned) in the atmosphere as your car produces when gasoline is burned. Paraffin is used in the manufacture of paraffin paper, candles, food package materials, varnishes, floor polishes, and cosmetics. It is also used in waterproofing and extracting of essential oils from flowers for perfume. It contains aromatic compounds, which are released that may be detrimental to one’s health. It could be harmful to the nervous system, etc.
I purchased a pure Beeswax candle and it burns longer. Just wondering if the beeswax comes before the honey or what is the process of acquiring the wax. Does the beeswax candle create the soot like other candles when you burn them in your home? The soot does leave a telltale film on things.
>>>Just wondering if the beeswax comes before the honey or
>>> what is the process of acquiring the wax.
The wax is the material used by bees to create the honeycomb in which the honey is stored. So in that sense the wax comes before the honey. However wax is normally extracted by apiarists AFTER the honey has been removed. Usually only the older frames with the older wax is removed from the hive, and those older frames will have been filled and refilled with honey several times. The newer cleaner wax is usually left to be refilled.

Beeswax candles create MORE soot than normal parrafin candles. Parrafin is a simple, high quality material extracted from mineral oil, and it burns very clean. Beeswax is a complex mixture of substances, many of which don’t burn well at all. It is the unburnt material that we see as soot.
Not only do beeswax candles produce more soot, but the soot tends to be a very noticeable black colour.

This is because of the type of wax used in their manufacture , having said that , beeswax candles are often bigger than regular candles depending what part of the World you are in and what season it is – In Guatemala during Spring , the native Ohooooloo Bee grows over seven feet in length and hence the candles made from it’s wax can be quite staggering in size – whereas the Belgian Mini Bee ( Beeus Microscopicus ) makes candles smaller than a tealight . Best not to worry about this to much and just enjoy the thoroughly relaxing experience a candlelit bath can bring .
