im going to make some gel candles for my sisters 50 birthday? do you have any good ideas for this?

I’m thinking of making them as a gift, but I have some questions before I start making them..

Is it ok if I just buy a gel candle, melt it into my chosen container & add the stuff I want in there???

Or do I have to go & buy the wax itself?
If so, where do I get it from?

Also, what are the things I CAN’T put in a gel candle??

Well, the last time I made them was a few years ago but when I did the gel wax came in a bag and you melted it and then placed it in the desired container. You could probably just buy a gel candle and melt that too. The kits are really easy to use though.

Amount Of Heat Needed

Gel candle wax can be melted by applying directed. However, unlike paraffin and bees wax, gel wax does not melt easily. It needs higher temperature to melt. Using a double boiler to melt gel candle wax will not do. You need between 230 and 250 degrees Fahrenheit to melt gel candle wax so you might as well forget about using that double boiler. Instead of using a double boiler, try using the oven or a hot plate. However, be very careful not to raise the temperature more that 260 degrees Fahrenheit. Too high temperature will scotch the gel and all your money and you labor will go to waste.

You should also keep the little children away from the kitchen you work on your candle wax to prevent accidents. Making Candle Wicks

If you want to add colors to your gel wax candle, be sure to use gel friendly dyes only. According to experts, these types of dyes have higher flashpoints so they do not cloud your gel.

I make gel candles but I want to sell them. What is the best way to get them sold. Should I find craft shows, or should I try and sell them to stores? ( I am under 18)

I’d take them to local gift shops. That’s how I sold the placemats, coasters, and paperback book covers I designed and made. I told then how much I wanted for them and Some of the gift shops paid for them when I delivered them, and some paid me when they sold.
