Question about large jars of Yankee Candles?

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

Maybe this is dumb question, but on the large jars of Yankee Candles, is it safe to turn the jars upside down when lighting them? LIke when the jars are only half full of wax, it’s difficult to light the wick with a match. If I turn the jar upside down to light it, I wondered if the heat from the match might cause the glass jar to explode. What tricks do people use to light candles when the wax gets lower in the glass jar?

No, it won’t explode. I use an incense stick that’s still on fire to light my candles when they’re half used. You could also buy one of those really long lighters. Wal-Mart sells them for a few bucks. One other thing would be to take a piece of paper towel, twist it up and use it to light your candle. It stinks for a second, but it works. :-)

Candles: Do they need to match?

Friday, May 21st, 2010

I am a HUGE candle freak. I have candles all over my apartment. I use them to decorate and to bring a nice, homey smell. Especially in the fall and winter. My question is this: Do the candle colors need to match the room decor? It is probably best if they do, correct? I try to match them with the decor, unless it is a jar candle. It is a little limiting, though. If there is a fragrance I like, and it is a color that isn’t in my home, I don’t buy it unless it is a jar candle. Is this correct? Also, do the fragrances need to necessarily compliment each other? Or do you think the fragrance pretty much stays in the one room?

personal preference, if you have fragrances that don’t come in colors that you like, you could put them into glasses or holders that go with your decor.

Fragrance goes where the air flow goes, but even if the air doesn’t seem to move, you will smell fragrances through out the house.

Can you put a jar candle in the microwave to melt the wax?

Monday, May 17th, 2010

I’ve got a candle that burned lopsided and I want to melt it down so the wax is level. Is it possible?

I have one of those candle heaters but it doesn’t level out the wax because this wax is up around the top of the glass rim. Putting it on the heater only melts the wax on the bottom.

Try soaking the jar in hot water, that’s always worked for me. The wax will become soft enough that you will be able to eventually peel it out.

How do you get the last bit of candle wax out of the glass jar?

Friday, May 14th, 2010

I bought these candles for the jars they came in. Now the candle will not burn anymore and I want to get the wax out and save the jar. Any suggestions?

set the jars in your freezer, then you can get it out easier.

I’m looking for jar lids similiar to what the keepers of the light candle co puts on their smallest candle?

Friday, May 14th, 2010

they are black and just sit on the candle jar. there are no filaments to it and they have a charming country look. I don’t know what they are called or where to get them.

I think your looking for apothecary jars. They generally were in Dr. offices long ago as the doctor didn’t have time to unscrew the jars when with a patient The first link looks like your best bet.
