Buddha pillar candle holder?

Monday, May 24th, 2010

I am looking for a Buddha candle holder I saw at Target. It holds a pillar candle and cost 49.99. It was the round Buddha but not smiling. A grey stone color. I have not been able to find it since.

Oh, you have to try www.wetangallery.com, this is a reputable exporter and retailer in Indonesia. As a matter of fact, I know many stores in Europe, Japan, and US import products directly from the parent company Wetan Mutia Export at wholesale price (only available for buyers who purchase in volume). But I discovered that they also sell for retail to tourists.

I discovered the Wetan Gallery (that’s the showroom retail name) while vacationing in Jogyakarta, Indonesia back in May before the earthquake. Any way, the local guide was driving us around in Bantul, on a major road. All of a sudden I turned to my left side and saw a lot of foreigners inside an interesting furniture and interior furnishings shop. I was curious of course and so I abruptly asked the driver to go back.

When I entered the showroom, I was instantly greeted by an English speaking staff…oh what a relief. I soon found out that Wetan Mutia Export (the small building I entered) was for just for export, but the sales attendant explained that their showroom Wetan Gallery is also for retail. The selection of natural handcrafted products with the use of innovative natural materials attracted me.

I was happy and surprised that people were friendly, customer-oriented, and more importantly..bilingual…what a relief! I bought so much candle holders made out of stone, and yes i did see a Buddah candle holder made out of lava stone. It’s inexpensive (in Rupiah). They even ship to the U.S.A, where I live, and guess what, my products all came in good condition via FedEx.

Can Pillar/Church Candles be put directly onto a table/tablecloth or do they normally drip?

Friday, May 21st, 2010

We’re planning a party abroad and are trying to decide on centerpieces. We need something cheap and classy like pillar/church candles tied together with ribbon. Trouble is I’m worried they’ll drip but don’t want to add extra cost by having to buy holders for all of them. We’ll have 20 or more tables. I won’t be able to test the candles before buying them so I need to know-as a rule to they normally drip or no. Thanks!

Serious answers only please.

Pillar candles won’t drip, but the wax itself might stain linens. Pillar candles will burn MUCH longer than tapers, and tapers drip like crazy. Your best bet is, as the other answer suggests, a mirror, or if you’re going real cheap, clear plastic or wax paper under the candles will protect the linens. You can scatter flower petals or stones if you feel the need to disguise the plastic. Check with the reception site to make sure open flame is allowed. Most places will allow pillar candles without holders, but not any other type. Good luck!

Argos white pillar candles?

Monday, May 17th, 2010

Beware these candles are highly dangerous. They leak and pour everywhere. They went over my floor, table and more. Argos tried to say that candle wax has to go somewhere. But no other candle does that. The catalogue number is 005/5237 and i stress these candles are unsafe to use. Do not use them try dunnes stores, watt brothers, qvc and many more

yes i agree with michael, i am guessing you are from Ireland as you mentioned Dunnes stores so you have probably been looking in argos.ie site but if you go onto argos.co.uk you can review items on from the argos catalogue, you should definitely write a review there to warn other people.

I want to make square pillar candles, are there any websites out there to show me how to do this??

Friday, May 14th, 2010

We used to make them as kids, using a square milk carton with the top cut off even.place your wick in the center(or use three or four wicks).Melt your wax in a double broiler, fill the carton with crushed ice(placing wicks where desired..the ice helps to support them),make sure they are toward the center, and not too close to the outside of the body of the candle.pour the wax into the carton, and let set. These are really pretty.because the ice melts leaving an unbelieveable pattern.Peel off the carton, and toss, snip the wick, apply ribbon to the outside,DONE! Have fun.

Can you make new candles out of old ones?

Friday, May 14th, 2010

I can get an unlimited amount of half used candles from my place of work, can you melt these down to make pillar candles and if so how do you do it.

Absolutely! I cant tell you how much money I have saved over the years from doing this.

Get a double boiler. An empty and clean coffee can can work well too, just heat water in a large pot on the stove and put the coffee can in the water… this will keep your wax from burning and from getting in contact with water.

Then just melt down the wax, remove the old wick. You can either use candle molds, available at craft stores, or you can make hand dipped candles.

To make hand dipped candles, simmer the water in your double boiler or large pot with coffee can in it. Have a bowl of cold water next to the stove. Take a new wick and fold in in half (tieing it onto a popsicle stick or something similar will help with the next step. Take your wick and dunk it into the hot wax, draw it out and dunk into the cold water. Put the wick back in the wax, withdraw, mold the shape with your fingers, put it back in the water, repeat. This method takes a long time, but produces lovely looking candles.

Another tip- If you want a certain color, you can always melt crayons with your wax. They are wax too and can be used to create some dazzling colors.

Does anyone know where I can find baskets and candles at a great wholesale price?

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

I am looking for oval baskets and plum pillar candles but need about 40-50 of each but don’t want to spend an arm and a leg…can anyone give some great sites on some baskets or candles?

Depending on what your baskets are for, gifts or to resell, I would recommend a quality candle provider, due to the fact that after all of the work you will be putting into the project, the whole experience should be nice once the candle is lit.

Colonial Candle, a 99 year old candle making company, has a light aubergine unscented pillar candle, available in 3×4, 3×6 and 3×9. They have a scented pillar in Blackberry Mint as well, if you prefer scented.

If you qualify, can may open a wholesale account or contact the website for a special order or discount.
