how are those scented candles made just wondering?

Typically, a fragrance oil is mixed in with the wax before it’s molded. They are actually really easy to make yourself – purchase wax beads from a craft store along with your choice of fragrance, mix it together and put it into a jar, teacup, etc. Poke a hole with a wooden skewer, insert the wick (ususally comes with the wax), and you’re done!

I want to have a nice dinner with my bf tonight and i was planning on lighting candles, how long should i let them burn so that upon walking through the door he is greeted by the smell? ((Our apartment is tiny, probably the size of the average master bedroom))

The scent should begin to emit it’s fragrance right away, but if you want the whole apartment to be filled with the aroma, I would give it at least 10 minutes or so, and you can disperse the candles around the apartment, or just near the place where you will be most of the time.

I like the effect, but most of them have a chemically note to the scent that makes my nose crawl…..yankee candles seem to be the most offensive….
Are there other brands that are widely available that I should try?

I use soy and beeswax candles, not as much of a chemically smell and they burn cleaner.

I grow rosemary, lavender, and other fragrant herbs. How can I put that fragrance in a candle? If, when melting the wax before pouring the candles, I dump in a handful of fresh herbs, will they make the candle produce a strong enough fragrance after it’s finished and I light it? Or do I need to do something else?

Fresh herbs would rot in the candle, and dried are a fire hazard. If you can extract the essential oils from the herbs that you grow, then you can use that. Otherwise, stick with commercial scents.

I love candles and after they have burned down I throw the galss away. Can the glasses be used for something else useful?

You can actually just go to a craft store and buy candle scent and wax and make another candle in the glass.
