For ambiance at my outdoor wedding, I want to make mason jar candles. By hot gluing the base of a votive candle to the jar, would it stay in place?
Also, I will tie wire around the mouth of the jar, but I want to hang the wire by ribbon to hooks on the patio ceiling. Will the ribbon get too hot and burn? I want to see if anyone else has done this!
I totally love the mason jar idea. I would, however, use the battery operated tea lights – just in case. Don’t know if you are by a Dollar Tree, but theirs are 2/1.00 – good deal!
Instead of votive candles use tea lights and some tin foil on the bottom to reflect the light. Tea lights won’t get as hot as votives. They also have battery operated tea lights that flicker like real lights. You can find then at Garden Ridge, Hobby Lobby, Michaels and probably any craft store. They come packages of 6 or 10 and you can probably find them for around $9.99 or so.
If you are worried about the candles burning out too soon or getting to hot I would go with the battery operated ones!

My husbands sister did Mason jars with candles and they were beautiful. They looked amazing and didn’t get too hot. I would definitely use tea lights though instead of votives.
Good Luck

I’d worry about the candle getting too hot. I worked in a cafe once and we had mason jar glasses. If you put a liquid that was too hot in them, they cracked instantly. Having a burning candle inside a jar like that and for a long period of time, might cause it to crack. So, be careful!

I wouldn’t worry abou the mason jar getting too hot. If you are using votive candles or tea lights I would think it would be fine to hang. Just tie the wire around the mouth of the jar and hang it by wire but cover the wire around the mouth with ribbon and have the ribbon hanging from the jar. It should then look like your jars are just hanging in mid air which would look really cool.
I don’t think the mason jars would get too hot because I live in South Louisiana and a company here makes hand poured triple scented candles in mason jars and they are a huge hit here.
