How-to: Realistic Electric Flickering Pillar Candles

Touring The Darkness haunt in St. Louis I came across super-realistic pillar candles that are electric so no need to change batteries. Unfortunately, the manufacturer (Enjoy Lighting) doesn’t make the pillar version any longer. That started my search to see what else was out there.

In the search, I discovered that Enjoy Lighting (Enchanted Lighting) still has the 3 incandescent grain bulb circuit array that I loved in their Outdoor Lanterns. So, I grabbed a set and hacked them into pillar candles. Success! Here’s my how-to.

    Well done! But …
Well done! But please, please use something other than your hands to hold the materials when using power tools. That’s not the sort of Hallowe’en movie we came to see!

    They don’t come …
They don’t come with a DC adapter so you’d have to hack one to it. Would be easy enough. It runs off of 12 volts.

BTW – do you happen to know if the “expansion packs” to the latern sets work as stand-alone lanters, or do they only rig up to the pre-strung set?

Yeah, hubby keeps telling me to get a vice grip ;) . I did start to melt one of them with the circuit inside but was concerned I’d melt the bulb circuit itself so I chickened out. Now…if I shielded it, hmmmm

May be it would be better to wrap candle in a towel and secure in a vice whilst drilling out.(Save your precious hands) as we need your expertise on GOE! lol. also could you of melted the inside prior to applying bulb unit ,wax would of dried around it and held it in place, no? Gotta admit lantern hack much more realistic.
