I use good soy wax chips and oil, follow all directions…but they just dont throw any scent. When they cool after being poured and i light them sometimes there are holes in the candle? Whats that about? Please help i thought this would be a fun activity for me and the family. Didnt think it would be so hard. ![]()
It is not easy to make a good candle, especially from soy. It often doesn’t give off a good scent throw. Some candle makers who want to have a "green" clean-burning candle have switched to vegetable wax blends including palm, coconut or other plant-based waxes.
This is an indirect answer. When I buy or am given scented candles, I find that they often give off little scent until blown out. I think the flame is burning the scent. I also notice that they have a very small puddle of melted wax around the wick. I think the scent, when it exists while burning, comes from off the melted wax away from the flame. So I think a candle that provides a scent while burning has got to have a bigger wick or some other variation so the flame is bigger and melts more wax. But I haven’t checked this out on the Internet.
The holes may be due to not pressing down the chips firmly enough and that may be allowing the scent to drain to the bottom also.
