I was wondering what the difference between a white candle and a white VOTIVE candle is, if there is one?
The term "votive" describes the size/shape of the candle; it is about 2" high and usually round. There are also tapers, (long, like in a candlelight dinner), tealights (very shallow in depth and can be used as "floaters") and candles generally used for candle magick, which are about 3 inches long, colored and unscented and found in most metaphysical shops.
a white candle could be any type of candle a votive is a tealight candle or tiny candle

I believe votive is merely the descriptive term for the type of candle (small and requiring a votive holder) whereas white candles simply describes the color…

Votives are the little short candles. Can be any color.

A votive candle is short, just a few inches tall. They were originally designed to put in those racks of glass holders in churches where people say prayers for various intentions as they light them. In Latin, "votare" means to dedicate.

Personally, for spellwork? I prefer tea lights. Lets me burn the whole candle instead of having to relight it in small doses every so often.
